Independence Day

Thu, Aug 15, 2024

I call August the Spiritual & Patriotic Month as it's dedicated to Lord Krishna, Festival Onam, Rakshabandhan Eid & Independence Day. So much in a month, it's the start of the festive season in India.  August in India is thus a vibrant tapestry of patriotism, fervor, and cultural beauty.

India is a diverse country with multiple religions and cultures conglomerated in a single form. This is why our Festivals draw a unique picture for the rest of the world to follow as a brilliant example of harmony.

In India, we have three different types of Festivals. The national Festivals are those days when something remarkable happened that changed the course of history for our country.

January 6th is celebrated as Republic Day. October 2 is Gandhi Jayanti, the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation.  These holidays are for everyone. Independence Day is celebrated on August 15, 1947. On this day, we received independence from the colonial rule of the British Empire.

India is an agricultural country and most Festivals generally depict the advent of new harvests. These festivals are the social glue that keeps different communities together despite the social differences and makes India stronger. RAKSHA BANDHAN is a festival that is celebrated to show love and unity.  On this auspicious day, brothers promise to safeguard their sisters from all evils.

INDEPENDENCE DAY Flag hoisting is done at every place major event and occurs at Red Fort Delhi where after independence first prime minister addressed the nation. Kite flying is one of the rituals this day.

Every month has a festival in India. On November 12th we will be celebrating Diwali, an important Hindu festival. Onam is a harvest festival in the southern part of India famous for its exquisite flower decorations and special food.
