Insurance Life Qualifying Events

Changing Insurance Elections by Reporting Qualifying Life Events in ADP

What is a Qualifying Life Event?

A Qualifying Life Event (QLE) is a specifically designated event (check your benefits guide) that would qualify for adding someone to your benefits plan or removing someone from your benefits plan.

What are some examples of Qualifying Life Events?

Marriage, divorce, spousal employment, dependents receiving SSNs, previous benefits expiring, deaths, newborns, and adoptions are all examples of Qualified Life Events. Please refer to your benefits guide for the full list!

When can a Qualifying Life Event be reported?

A Qualifying Life Event must be reported within 30 days of that event occurring. Example: A new baby is born on July 31st, so the deadline to enroll them in benefits would be August 28th.

Where can Qualifying Life Events be reported?

To report a Qualifying Life Event, log into ADP, hover over the “Myself” tab, and select “Enrollments”.

Then click the proper event to describe your situation

You will then be asked to enter all information for the dependent qualifying with the life change. Under “Tax ID Type”, select “United States Social Security Number (SSN)”.

*Note: If the new dependent being added does not have a social security number yet, select the box that states “Applied For”. This will allow you to continue one without entering the SSN, which can be added later on once received.

You will then be asked to confirm all information that has been entered, and select “Continue to enrollments”.

Next, read through the “Welcome” page thoroughly. This page will explain your deadline, and other important information.

The next page will list your dependents. If everything has been entered correctly thus far, your Qualifying Life Event dependent should automatically show here. Select “Next” if everything looks correct, and the next page will be “Select Benefits”. This is where you will be able to add or remove your new dependent from your insurance options, and review pricing.

You can either select “Next” and Submit and Review your choices on the next page, or wait to come back to submit before the deadline.

If you do not submit your choices immediately, your Life Event  and its deadline will show up on your homepage in ADP until you do so.
